Legal Information

Last updated: 6 November 2026

This page brings together the legal information that applies to this website and to the training and production services offered through it. It explains who operates the site, the legal form of the business, the registration and tax identifiers that United Kingdom law expects a commercial company to publish, the rules that apply when you use the site or book a course, and what you can do if something goes wrong. It is written in plain English and forms part of a wider set of policies, each of which is named later on this page.

Where this page says "we", "us" or "our", it means penrafta, the operator of this website. Where it says "you", it means the person visiting the site, the learner attending a course, or the organisation booking on someone else's behalf.

Who We Are and the Role of This Page

This website is operated by penrafta, a commercial provider of practical training for people who work with live media feeds, control rooms and broadcast output. Our courses cover professional video operation, live signal management, the routing and distribution of camera feeds, multi-camera switching, studio and field camera work, real-time streaming, and the creation of reliable, high-quality video for news and current affairs output and television broadcasting.

This page is the operator's legal notice. Its role is to identify the business behind the website, to record the information that United Kingdom company, consumer and e-commerce law expects to be disclosed, and to set out the basis on which the site and its content may be used. It is not a sales page, and it does not replace the detailed contractual terms that apply to a booking, which are contained in the Terms and Conditions described below.

Because we sell training both to individual learners, who are treated as consumers, and to production companies, broadcasters and other organisations, who are treated as business customers, some of the rules described here apply differently depending on who you are. Where that is the case, we say so clearly. Nothing in this page removes or reduces any right that the law gives you.

Company Information Required of UK Commercial Websites

The United Kingdom has a relatively detailed disclosure regime for company websites. The Companies Act 2006, the Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008 and the Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business (Names and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2015 require a company to display, in a prominent place on its website, its registered name, the part of the United Kingdom in which it is registered and its registered number, and the address of its registered office. Where the business is registered for VAT, the VAT registration number should be shown on the site as well. The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 and the Provision of Services Regulations 2009 add a requirement to provide a direct and effective means of contact, such as an email address and a telephone number, and to give clear information about the provider of a service before a contract is concluded.

Those particulars are repeated in the footer of every page of this website in short label-and-value form so that they are easy to find. The same identifiers are set out in full below.

Legal Form and Registration Details

penrafta is a private limited company incorporated in England and Wales. Its registration particulars are as follows: Company Registration Number: 02867466; Place of Registration: England and Wales; Registered Office: 6 Union Court, 20-22 Union Road, London, SW4 6JP, United Kingdom. The company is registered at Companies House, where the register of companies may be inspected by any member of the public free of charge and where copies of filed accounts, confirmation statements and other filings can be obtained. The company's legal name is the name entered in that register, and that is the name that should be used in any formal document, court paper or contract.

Tax Identifiers

VAT Registration Number: GB 645 085 923. Because the company is registered for VAT, VAT is charged on the courses and related services that are subject to it, and the amount of VAT is shown separately, or stated to be included, at the point of booking. Business customers who are registered for VAT in another country may be affected by the place-of-supply rules if they give us a valid VAT number; we will confirm the tax treatment in writing before an invoice is issued. Personal data collected for invoicing, including company names, addresses and VAT numbers, is processed for the purposes described in the Privacy Policy and is retained for the periods explained there.

Licences, Authorisations and Regulatory Status

Providing training in video operation, live signal management and broadcast production does not require a specific licence in the United Kingdom, and we are not regulated by a professional body in the way that, for example, solicitors, surveyors or financial advisers are. There is therefore no supervisory authority for this activity to which a complaint about our professional conduct can be made, and we do not hold a professional indemnity scheme that is compulsory by law. Two related points are worth noting. First, where radio microphones, talkback systems or other wireless equipment are used in a production, the person operating that equipment needs the appropriate authorisation from Ofcom, and the requirements are explained during the relevant course. Second, where a course takes place on a broadcaster's premises or at a venue, the site-specific safety and security rules set by that organisation apply in addition to our own instructions, and they take priority in an emergency.

Directors and Responsible Representatives

Responsibility for the company rests with its directors, whose names are filed with Companies House and are available for public inspection. Day-to-day responsibility for course delivery, customer service and data protection sits with the management team appointed by the directors. Formal correspondence intended for the directors should be sent by email to [email protected] or in writing to the registered office at 6 Union Court, 20-22 Union Road, London, SW4 6JP, United Kingdom, marked for the attention of the directors. This page is maintained by the management team, and any question about the accuracy of the information published here should be raised through the same channels.

Registered Office and How to Reach Us

Our registered office is at 6 Union Court, 20-22 Union Road, London, SW4 6JP, United Kingdom. You can contact us by email at [email protected] or by telephone on 01483 234344. The Contacts page of this website also provides a contact form, which is the quickest route for general enquiries about course dates, availability, joining instructions and invoices.

We aim to acknowledge enquiries within two working days and to give a substantive reply within five working days during normal business hours. Where a formal notice is required under the Terms and Conditions, for example to cancel a booking or to raise a complaint, it must be sent by email to [email protected] or by post to the registered office so that we have a dated record of it. Messages left on social media, sent to an individual member of staff, or passed on verbally are not treated as formal notice.

We do not publish a separate correspondence address: material sent by post should be addressed to the registered office shown above, which is monitored during business hours. Please do not send valuable equipment, original documents or anything perishable to that address without agreeing arrangements with us in advance, as we cannot accept responsibility for items sent without notice.

Purpose, Scope and Intended Audience of This Website

This website exists to describe our training, to allow learners and organisations to enquire about and book places, and to provide the practical information that people need before attending a course. Its scope covers control room operations, multi-camera production workflows, signal routing and monitoring, broadcasting standards, camera work in studio and field environments, and the management of live streams for television and online distribution.

The intended audience includes media professionals, production technicians, aspiring broadcasters, camera operators, students of film, television and media studies, corporate communications teams, and organisers of live events and streamed productions. The site is published in English and is aimed at users in the United Kingdom and internationally. Teaching is delivered in English, course materials are written in English, and any assessment is conducted in English, so a reasonable working command of the language is needed to take part safely.

The website is an information and booking service. Its content is general in nature: it describes techniques and industry practice, but it is not technical, legal, health and safety or engineering advice for a particular production, and it should not be relied on as a substitute for the instructions of the broadcaster, venue, manufacturer or insurer responsible for a given job. Course places are offered subject to availability, and a booking is only confirmed when we send written confirmation and, where applicable, payment has been received.

Access to the Website and Acceptable Use

You may use this website for lawful purposes connected with learning about and booking our courses. Access is provided free of charge, and we may change, suspend or withdraw the site or any part of it without notice, although we will not do so in a way that removes rights you have already acquired under a confirmed booking.

The following are examples of use that is not acceptable. You must not:

  • copy, scrape, harvest or systematically extract content, prices, course descriptions or learner details from the site, or use automated tools to do so, without our written permission;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, to any account, or to any server, network or database connected to it, or probe, scan or test its security;
  • introduce viruses, malware, ransomware or any other harmful code or material;
  • upload or transmit content that is unlawful, defamatory, misleading, discriminatory, or that infringes the rights of another person;
  • use our content, course materials, recordings, diagrams or footage to train, fine-tune or evaluate a machine learning or artificial intelligence system without a written licence from us;
  • record, reproduce or share course sessions, screen content or teaching materials, or use them to run competing training;
  • misrepresent your identity, qualifications or affiliation, or book places using false details;
  • disrupt a course or a live production environment, or behave in a way that endangers others or breaches the safety rules of a studio, gallery or venue.

If you breach these rules, we may suspend or terminate your access to the site, refuse or cancel a booking, and take legal action where appropriate. We will normally warn you first, but we may act immediately where there is a risk to safety, security or the rights of others. Where a booking is cancelled because of a serious breach of this section, the provisions of the Payment and Refund Policy apply.

Ownership of Content, Trade Marks and Permitted Use

All content on this website, including text, course descriptions, teaching materials, workbooks, checklists, diagrams, signal-flow charts, photographs, video clips and audio, is owned by us or licensed to us and is protected by copyright, database right and other intellectual property rights. The layout and design of the site are protected in the same way.

You may view the site, and download or print individual pages, for your own private, non-commercial reference, provided you keep all copyright and ownership notices intact. You may not otherwise reproduce, republish, sell, rent, sub-licence, edit, translate, frame, mirror or redistribute any part of the content, or use it in a commercial product or service, without our prior written permission. Course materials supplied to learners are licensed for the personal use of the individual who attends the course and must not be shared with colleagues, clients or third parties.

Our trading name, logo and course names are our trade marks. Other product names, equipment brands and company names that appear on the site or in course materials, for example those of camera, switcher, router or streaming manufacturers, are the trade marks of their respective owners and are used for identification and teaching purposes only. Their use does not imply any affiliation with, or endorsement by, those owners, and any defect, compatibility question or support matter relating to their products should be raised with them directly.

If you believe that content on this site infringes your rights, please contact us at [email protected] with details of the material concerned and the right you say has been infringed, and we will investigate promptly. We may remove content while we look into a complaint.

Accuracy, Availability and Proportionate Limits of Liability

We take reasonable care to ensure that the information on this site is accurate when it is published. Broadcast technology changes quickly: equipment models are discontinued, software menus are redesigned and industry standards are updated. Descriptions of equipment, workflows and standards are therefore given as general guidance and may not reflect the latest position at the moment you read them. If you are making a purchasing, staffing or operational decision, please confirm the current position with us or with the manufacturer before you rely on it.

We aim to keep the site available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. The site may be unavailable during maintenance or updates, or because of factors outside our control such as network, hosting or payment service failures.

Nothing on this page excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for breach of the terms implied by section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

For consumers, we are responsible for foreseeable loss and damage caused by our breach of these disclosures or of the Terms and Conditions. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable to both of us when the contract was made, nor for loss arising from a business use of a course that was booked as a consumer. For business customers, we exclude liability for loss of profit, loss of contract, loss of opportunity, loss of data and indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability arising out of or in connection with any booking is limited to the total fees paid by that customer for the course concerned. Where a course cannot be delivered for reasons within our control, our liability is limited to a refund or a replacement place under the Payment and Refund Policy.

We are not liable for failures or delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including illness, transport disruption, power or network failure, industrial action, extreme weather, venue closure, or the acts or omissions of a third-party platform or supplier.

External Links and Third-Party Content

This site may occasionally point to websites, platforms or resources operated by other people, including equipment manufacturers, industry bodies, training partners and payment or video conferencing providers. Those references are provided for convenience and further reading only. We do not control those sites, we do not review them for accuracy or security, and we are not responsible for their content, availability, terms of use or privacy practices.

Following a link away from this site means that a different operator's terms and privacy notice will apply to what you do there. The inclusion of a link is not an endorsement, and the absence of a link to a particular provider does not imply criticism of it. If you find a link on this site that is broken, misleading or points to material you consider inappropriate, please tell us at [email protected].

Where a course involves a third-party platform, for example a streaming, conferencing or file-sharing service used during a live session, your use of that platform is also governed by its own terms. You are responsible for reading them before the session begins, and for making sure that your own equipment and connection meet the platform's requirements.

Data Protection, Privacy and Cookies in the United Kingdom

We process personal information in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Broadly, we collect what we need to administer enquiries and bookings, to deliver courses safely, to take payment, to keep proper business and tax records, and to send you marketing about similar courses where you have agreed to receive it or where the law permits it on the basis of our legitimate interests as an existing customer.

Our lawful bases for processing are: performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request before a contract, such as handling a booking enquiry; compliance with a legal obligation, for example financial record keeping; our legitimate interests in running and improving the business, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights; and consent, which we rely on for optional analytics and most marketing and which you can withdraw at any time.

Where a course requires adjustments for a disability or a medical condition, or where you tell us about access or dietary needs, the information you give us may amount to special category data. We will ask for your explicit consent before recording it, and we will use it only to make the training accessible and safe.

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected for, and then delete or anonymise it. Booking and financial records are normally kept for six years to meet accounting and limitation requirements. Where a course is hosted at a venue, any CCTV at that venue is controlled by the venue operator rather than by us, and questions about it should be directed to them.

You have the right to be informed, to access your information, to have inaccurate information corrected, to ask for erasure in certain circumstances, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which is the United Kingdom's supervisory authority for data protection. Requests about your information can be sent to [email protected]; we will respond within one month, and we may ask you to confirm your identity first.

Some suppliers we use, such as payment processors or cloud hosting providers, may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the standard contractual clauses, together with an assessment of the risks involved.

Cookies and similar technologies are used in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, known as PECR. Strictly necessary cookies that keep the site and its security working are set without consent because they are required to provide the service you asked for. Analytics, advertising and other non-essential cookies are set only after you agree to them through the site-wide cookie banner, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although parts of the site may then work less well.

Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Terms and Conditions and Payment and Refund Policy

This page is one of a set of documents that apply together. None of them should be read on its own, and where two documents appear to conflict, the more specific document prevails for the subject it covers.

Privacy Policy

The Privacy Policy explains in detail what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how to exercise your rights under the UK GDPR. It also identifies the contact point for data protection queries and describes how to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Cookie Policy

The Cookie Policy lists the cookies and similar technologies used on this site, explains what each is for and how long it lasts, and describes how to change or withdraw your consent under PECR.

Terms and Conditions

The Terms and Conditions contain the contractual rules that apply to bookings and to use of the website, including how a contract is formed, prices and payment terms, the conduct expected during a course, cancellation by you or by us, and the limits of our liability. They also explain how formal notices must be given and which law applies.

Payment and Refund Policy

The Payment and Refund Policy sets out how and when payment is due, the accepted methods of payment, invoicing for business customers, and the circumstances in which a refund, credit or transfer to another course date is available. If you are a consumer who books online or by telephone, you normally have a fourteen-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, running from the day the contract is concluded. If you ask us to begin teaching within that period and then change your mind, you may be charged for the part of the course already supplied, and the cancellation right is lost once a service has been fully performed with your agreement.

Applicable Law, Competent Courts and Consumer Dispute Rights

This website, these disclosures and all contracts made through the site are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Subject to the paragraph below, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from the site or from a course.

If you are a consumer, nothing in this page affects your statutory rights, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom in which you live, whether that is England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Consumers in the United Kingdom have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including the right to services performed with reasonable care and skill, at a reasonable price, and within a reasonable time where no date has been agreed. Where a service falls short, the remedies available include repeat performance and a price reduction, in addition to any refund or credit offered under the Payment and Refund Policy.

If something goes wrong, please contact us first at [email protected] or on 01483 234344 so that we can try to put it right. We will acknowledge complaints within five working days and aim to give a full response within twenty working days. If we cannot resolve a complaint, we will explain why and set out what you can do next. We are not currently obliged by law to use an alternative dispute resolution provider, but we will consider a reasonable request to do so, and a list of certified alternative dispute resolution providers is published by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. Data protection complaints may be made to the Information Commissioner's Office, and consumer complaints about unfair terms or trading practices may be raised with Trading Standards.

Nothing in these disclosures, and no delay by us in enforcing a right, waives any right or remedy available to either party.

Changes to This Page, Contact Route and Last-Updated Date

We review this page regularly and may update it to reflect changes in the law, in our business, or in the way the website operates. The version currently in force is the one shown at the top of this page, last updated on 6 November 2026. Where a change is material, for example a change to the identity of the operator or to the way we handle personal information, we will highlight it on this page and, where the law requires it, notify affected customers directly. Continued use of the site after an update means that the revised page applies to your future use, but it will not retrospectively change the terms of a contract that has already been concluded with you.

If you have a question about this page, about the company information published here, or about anything else covered above, please use the contact form on the Contacts page, email [email protected], telephone 01483 234344, or write to us at 6 Union Court, 20-22 Union Road, London, SW4 6JP, United Kingdom. Please include your booking reference where your question relates to a course you have booked, as this helps us answer more quickly.
